THIS IS IT FOLKS
THE GET-HOT VIDEO CLIVE MADE IN 1995.
Here in a punch packed program we find Clive Baldwin, the living voice of Al Jolson, stepping out once again with all the boldness and energy of his dynamic stage presence. This has something for everyone and anyone seeing Clive for the first time will be memorized by his showmanship while the converted can enjoy again and again the uncanny resemblance to the Big Daddy of this century’s showman, the great Al Jolson.
We have a DVD / video program which not only highlights Clive’s singing talents but also gives us an insight into his background in other words what makes the guy tick! What in fact has become “The Baldwin Experience.” We hear the story of a boy following the local fairgrounds, the travelling shows where he first heard the voice of his idol emanating from the hurly-burly sounds of the roundabouts and switchbacks. How that voice so much like his natural tone, dedicated him to becoming a Jolson successor with a determination to never let the style go out of fashion.
This was the beginning of the road for The World’s Greatest Minstrel, a journey that would lead from the helter-skelter of the showground’s to the sophistication of the London Palladium, theatrical kingdom of the stars. He crossed the Atlantic and became a resident of the sunshine state of Florida, making Miami Beach his long time home. Clive has embarked on a career, which has flourished on both sides of the big pond as well as touring Australia and Canada.
Milestones along the way include the famous Tony Awards ‘Night of the Stars’ at the New York Winter Garden, the home of Al Jolson’s greatest successes back in the early days, and a stunning performance with Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds in a TV movie, ‘The Last Great Vaudeville Show’, on each occasion playing the role of Jolson to a critical acclaim. Many of Al’s contemporaries including Bob Hope and George Burns have been bowled over with Clive’s performances and the two surviving wives of the old Mammy Singer have both expressed their appreciation.
This video will become a collection and now is the time to obtain it to play over and over to remind us of Mistah Baldwin, waiting in the wings, resplendent in the minstrel makeup and white gloves, springing on stage with a wide grin, outstretched arms and a song on his lips as the orchestra introduces Jolie’s old theme ‘Let Me Sing and I’m Happy.’
And when Clive Baldwin starts to sing everybody’s happy!
